Gunnison Guided Fly Fishing Trips
Our highly skilled fly fishing guides float, wade, hike and drift the Gunnison Valley year-round to stay in tune with where the trout are biting, and what they are eating.
We pair our guests with the right guide to match your fishing style. Whether you are looking for a fly fishing trip for beginners, or a "canyon crawl" for the expert seeking a more technical challenge, our guides pay attention to what you want from your time on the water.
There are hundreds of ways to have fun fly fishing the Gunnison Valley. A long float down the Gunnison River for trophy trout is something every flyfisher should experience. We also love to take folks up to high mountain creeks with outsized fish that slurp dry flys with reckless abandon. If you are in Gunnison during the Fall, the Kokanee salmon run is something you won't want to miss. Let us teach you how to catch them like a pro.
A one-on-one guided wade is a great way to reduce the learning curve, improve your cast, and learn how to find fish in any river. Our guides take the time to educate guests about why one area of the river is more likely to hold feeding fish than another. We discuss why we choose a certain fly, and how to use each fly effectively. Our goal is to not only help you catch fish today, but to catch more fish in the future.

Our Fly Fishing Guides
Spencer is from Plattesville, Colorado where he took up fly fishing at the age of 13 following a casting class on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout. He moved to Gunnison to attend Western State Colege of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Wildlife Biology. He loves to channel his passion for fly fishing here in Gunnison by training and guiding beginners to the same respect for the sport of fly fishing that he possesses. Spencer is a patient casting instructor, and understands that women, men, and children all have different learning styles. As well, his deep understanding of the local ecosystem really shines through when guiding in the valley. Spencer is also experienced in ice fishing, rock climbing, and, enjoys hiking to remote fly fishing spots.
Born to the Northwoods of Michigan, Chis Bacon was steeped in a deep family tradition of flyfishing. Starting his journey of flyfishing at the ripe old age of 8, he has been fishing across the United States for 30 years - and developed quite a few unique takes on the sport. Trying to stay as humble in the profession as he can, Bacon makes it a personal point to help every customer as if they were his only customer. Whether in the shop or guiding on the river, he is always focussed on creating a memorable experience for our guests.
Dane Scott is the rare Colorado native. He has fished all over Colorado and the surrounding states, but grew up fishing the Gunnison Valley and the Arkansas River. He loves fishing everything from alpine lakes and streams, to big floatable rivers like the Gunny. We are pretty sure he has fished every day since he was 3, and it's only getting worse. His passion for the sport just keeps growing. Dane is tuned into the science behind the bugs, the river flows, and how it all works together. When he isn't fishing, Dane is hiking into a place to fish, tying flies to catch fish, or painting (you guessed it) fish.
Mike Gaglianese hails from Utica, NY. He grew up fly fishing the Mohawk Valley and Adirondacks in upstate New York, while chasing steelhead on the Salmon River in the winter. He attended Purdue University on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. He has been fly fishing Colorado for the past 4 years and never looked back. Mike's favorite fishing is on the Gunny with big indicator rigs, digging deep for the big guys. He also loves throwing streamers and dries when the fishing gets hot.
